Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoWs)
Details
Once planning permission is granted, an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) is often required to oversee the construction phase. Our ECoW services provide the "boots on the ground" expertise necessary to ensure that site activities comply with environmental legislation, planning conditions, and protected species licences.
Our Role on Site:
Pre-construction Checks: Conducting final sweeps for nesting birds, reptiles, or badger activity before vegetation clearance or groundworks begin.
Toolbox Talks: Delivering site inductions to contractors to ensure all personnel understand the ecological sensitivities and their legal responsibilities.
On-site Supervision: Monitoring high-risk activities, such as the supervised demolition of buildings with bat potential or the installation of exclusion fencing.
Compliance Reporting: Maintaining detailed site logs and photographic evidence to demonstrate to Local Planning Authorities and statutory bodies that all ecological mitigation is being followed correctly.
Having a proactive ECoWs on-site doesn't just protect wildlife—it protects your project. By identifying potential issues before they cause a breach of the law, we help you avoid stop-work orders, heavy fines, and reputational damage. We work collaboratively with your site team to find pragmatic solutions that keep your build on schedule while meeting all environmental obligations.
